MizunoG4 Samurai Catcher's Helmet

We've used this for my child's 11u and 12u seasons. He plays a lot. The helmet breathes well, is easy to adjust, the padding is really nice, good visibility and can be ripped off no problem.Only downside I have found is that the really nice padding doesn't last as well as some of the cheaper helmets we've had. Some parental maintenance to keep helmet pads glued down and some post game deodorizing spray and proper drying out would probably help a lot. For us... well I just buy replacement pads and apoxy and re-do them at the end of each season.

As a men’s softball slow pitch pitcher, this helmet was a must have. With so many head hunters playing you have to be crazy to be a pitcher. Because I am that crazy, a helmet was a must have and this one is a great choice. The price was more than fair and it looks pretty good. It is a must have and a life/face saver. The only drawback is that it does impair your sight of fielding on balls hit on the ground, but that is the trade off for saving your face. It did force me to invest in shin guards as well so I feel comfortable on the mound. The only other option would be to go to a face mask only but between the two, I end up choosing this helmet for safety purposes. The face mask style instead of a full helmet just doesn’t protect me quite as well.

The bottom straps on the back of the mask are not elastic, so it takes a little extra effort to pull the mask off. This can be annoying at game speed, when I have to find a pop up behind the plate. Otherwise it’s comfortable and feels safe.

I volunteer umpire for Little league from the 10-11 age bracket all the way through Senior Division. I transitioned from the standard mask to this helmet for the added protection due to the types of backstops we sometimes encounter in youth sports (many will return a foul ball at high speed from above or behind). This helmet has been very comfortable in hot weather and I find that I am a bit more relaxed behind the plate with it. I know some will not wear a hat under the helmet but I personally wear the short bill plate hat under this helmet. It works great, easy to remove without pulling off your hat. All around good deal.

the design of the mask, gives the feeling of having the most professional, the plastic material looks a bit delicate, but it just needs to be tested over time, excellent grip, adjustability and very comfortable, buy 100% recommended ...

Received May 2021 and lasted to July 2021. I’d read the reviews and knew the padding had issues but didn’t expect this to happen so soon. My kid takes excellent care of her gear and she leaves the helmet on to catch pop ups. I believe the padding is of very poor quality unbecoming of a company such as Mizuno to put out. With this being said I’d hoped it’d last at least a year or more. I was wrong. The padding on the back and both sides are coming apart as well.I’m also having issues with the plastic snaps in the back. Purchased metal ones at the local sports store hoping this’ll fix that issue.We also swapped out the new chin pad with her old one as the one that came with was bulky and extremely uncomfortable.So, with all that said, my daughter does like this helmet and I believe it protects very well. So it’s worth the effort to try and fix these issues.So please keep this in mind when deciding on your next catchers helmet.

Not long after purchasing this helmet I was involved in a full-speed collision that knocked me backward into the next zip code. I've seen some reviews for the G4 Samurai that say it's light on protection, but let me say for the record that even though the point of contact was mostly my head there was no concussion, and no head injury. The helmet stayed on and did it's job. For a catcher's helmet that is so lightweight and comfortable it offers excellent protection!

Purchase this for my daughter who is an All-Star catcher in our local softball league. Not only does it look great on her, she says it is comfortable and strong. Very happy with this purchase

I use it for behind the plate as umpire. Nice fit. Good price. Have taken a few foul balls off the head and it's well built.
