Review: MI GS65 👍 - Very good gaming laptop - got this for my son and he is very happy with it . Review: The fans are garbarge - I have now ran into a fan issue thrice with this machine. The keyboard backlighting is also not working as expected for some keys! The support takes weeks in the best case. I thought MSI had a good reputation for hardware, but this machine has proven me wrong. I don't think I'll buy MSI ever again. :(

TLDR: Great laptop, high performance for workstation and graphics tasks. If I could, I would give it 4.6 stars due to its slightly high price tag, but its well worth it for the excellent cooling and design. Some Background: I was looking for a laptop to replace my previous one with a 7700hq and an RX 550. The performance on that one was supposed to be good, but it was worse than a tablet. I knew I would have to get a new laptop quicker than I wanted to. Luckily, intel released their 8th gen mobile processors with a hexa-core in the mix. I found out that the seventh gen mobile processors were just bad in general, so I decided an 8750h was a must. I would recommend this choice with an ssd for any laptop that needs to perform anything more than web browsing. The Review: I was looking for a laptop with a 8750h and a GTX 1050 (Ti?) that was under 5 lbs and thinner than 1 inch. Thin bezels was an option that was great, but not specifically looking for. Unfortunately, those don't have adequate cooling to get full performance out of the 8750h. As soon I saw the pixtures of this laptop, I knew that the cooling was specifically designed to handle the load of the 8750h. The 1060 became one of the more important things about this laptop, given the 1080p 144hz display. A list of important features that weren't requirements for me but may be important to others: 1080p 144hz display RGB keyboard (per key) Fold-flat hinge Remappable keys Separate Headphone and microphone jacks Thunderbolt 3 port I generally ignore the keyboard and the trackpad on laptops, however this laptops keyboard is actually useable for gaming, especially when you disable the trackpad. Speaking of which, the trackpad is also quite usable when you don't have time / space to set up a mouse. I do wish that there was a windows hello enabled camera or a fingerprint reader. Price to performance is not the greatest, but that is due to the super slim design and almost zero bezels. When compared to other laptops with the same specs and weight under 5 lbs, it is quite reasonable actually. Overall, if you need a thin, light laptop with great multi-core performance and enough graphics performance to power the display, this is the laptop for you, whether you choose the 1060 or the 1070 version. If you think you could get more perforamance with an i9 at this thinness, make sure that you check that it can cool it. My guess would be that the laptop needs to be thicker than 1" and weigh significantly more to adequately cool and get more performance out of it than the i7.

This machine is quite unbelievable for a laptop. The build quality if fantastic. The RGG keyboard is beautiful and feels fantastic. The trackpad is responsive and accurate, maybe the best I've ever used. The 1070+144hz display just kills every game I've thrown at it on Ultra settings. Desktop and work application performance is also fantastic. Everything is done NOW. My only cons are the power port location, right in the middle on the right bezzle, and the speakers leave a little to be desired for a laptop of this quality and cost. Overall, I'd still give it 10/10 though and recommend to anyone who wants a serious piece of hardware in their laptop bag.

I had been searching for a portable workhorse for sometime before the MSI P65 (1070 Mx-Q, 500gb) caught my eye. Know that I am a Zbrush sculpture, FX artist, and game developer. I love this machine! I haven't done a ton of gaming on it but it has rocked FFXIV and Black Desert like a champion for a couple hours at a time. Pros: - Sleek, professional, and beautiful design. - The multi monitor support works super well. - Thoughtful cooling design- this puppy can handle a LOT before it starts to get -too- hot (90'-100'C). The flipped motherboard was a great choice. - Dragon Center's "Cooler Boost" technology -nearly- eliminates the need for an external cooling fan (though if you care about your machine at all you will still get a cooling pad at least). - WORK. HORSE. This machine could handle 4k renders in Maya while editing texture maps in Photoshop. In fact, this machine eats Photoshop for breakfast and can run it behind virtually any other program- like Zbrush or Unreal for instance- without eating up too much processing power or RAM. (Naturally, you shouldn't leave RAM munching software running overnight or something. This machine likely wouldn't handle it well) . - Can handle a few-hour long Maya render. It cries a bit, but it can handle it. - The keys feel wonderful. The hotkeys on the keyboard are super helpful and function well. - The display is absolutely magnificent and MSI's "True Color" options really make a huge difference. It's like having a Mac's display without having to own a crummy Mac machine. - The mousepad functions are wonderful. (Such as scrolling, zooming, ect... Though I don't use it for working.) - Finger-Print sign-in works great. Cons: - The Speaker sound quality is REALLY bad. However the sound card when using headphones makes up for it. - The battery is nothing to write home about. You will get 2-3 hours of work in tops before needing to charge (maybe 5 if you're just writing or web browsing). - Adding an additional SSD is TERRIFYING. Not impossible, just nerve-wracking (due to the fact that you have to flip the motherboard over to install the SSD without tearing a ribbon or messing something up). If you have never built a computer or disassembled one before, I recommend just buying a version of this machine with a bigger HD or using an external. I added an additional 1TB Samsung Evo to mine. - The casing scratches easy on the outside- be wary. (I earned a couple of small scratches when adding the extra SSD). - Watch your background processes, such as Adobe CC or Autodesk manager. This is still a laptop, not a desktop- and too many background processes tend to heat this badboy up easily and unnecessarily. I recommend having such processes disabled when you aren't using them. Thoughts: A good portable work horse, just keep in mind that this thing is a laptop and not a desktop- and therefore cannot stay as cool while running several processes. If you need this computer to last you a few years then keep it cool! Buy a laptop cooler for it to sit on at least (I have been using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NACVLWM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for an extra cooler boost. It really works well). Good Luck, and Happy creating!

Overall it is a great laptop with a lot of power on a slim form factor. My previous gaming laptop was an ASUS which weight is 8.2 lbs, so I am very happy with this new very light gaming laptop. Before get into what I like or dislike I want to mention that this laptop gets really hot, but it is something I was expecting and something that doesn't bother me at all, I am just wondering if this is going to be a durable laptop or not due to the heat inside could eventually damage some components. Also I am not going to take as good or bad the battery life since I know the graphic card demands a lot of power when playing games, so I am feeling good overall with the battery performance. What I like: -Screen, it looks amazing, no LCD bleeding that I can complaint -Speed, it is really fast, booting, and loading games -Keyboard, typing experience and steelseries software -I/O has all that you could need, even LAN port -Graphic and Processor Performance -it is noisy but I don't think it is to loud for me. What I dislike -Finger print magnet -lacking of automated drivers update, I have a PC with a MSI mother board, it has the live update software which monitors if there are new driver's version and I decide when to download them and install them, with this laptop there is nothing for that, you have to go to the website and check if there is a new version of any driver and figure it out when was the last time you updated it, so you can compare against the release date. -Sound, sound is not that good, I have an Ipad Pro and it sounds a lot lot better than this laptop -Hardware Upgrade, I like to be able to upgrade the stuff myself, but with this laptop I don't think I am going to upgrade anything (I wanted to add a second SSD) but as you probably know the mother board is flipped so in order to have access to the SSD slot you have to disconnect multiple connectors and I am not willing to do it. -AC Power connector, I think it could be placed closer to a corner and not almost at the middle of the right side.
